This two day portrait course will be divided into drawing on the first day and painting on the second. Each day will start with an instructional demonstration to introduce major aspects of each artists thought process. Students will work on their own pieces the rest of the day as they are individually coached by the teachers. The class will explore linear and mass oriented approaches, balancing an abstract comprehension of the visual experience with a conceptual understanding of form in space, and implementing an economical use of information.

WORKSHOP AT ALIA FINE ART STUDIOS
'On Paper, An Exhibition of Drawings'
I co-curated this exhibition of drawings with my husband Jordan Sokol at The Florence Academy of Art in Jersey City. The show is up until June 29th and showcases an extraordinary selection of drawings by over thirty of today's leading figurative artists.
You can see my most recent drawing, "The Last Strands of Winter', my tiny contribution using a mixed media technique of gouache, pencil, conte, charcoal and white chalk on hand toned paper mounted on Dibond.

Here is an image of my drawing, during the last days of completion, checking the texture on the surface.

As I was planning to work with layers of dry and wet media I found it extremely useful to work on a preliminary little concept drawing to understand the order of the layering and have a clear idea of the light effect.
